IKonic Interior pieces of the week

On this week’s IKonic Pieces, I show appreciation to some great designers like Mario Botto, Simone Michelin, Piero Fornasetti, Daniela Forti, and Mathmos. Check out these eccentric vintage furniture styles for inspiration in your creative space.

Yellow Jelly Sofa by Simone Michelin

The Jelly Sofa is this week’s top favorite piece! This cute couch comes in various colors like white, orange, pale blue, green, etc. Alongside the fun cushion, it features a polychromatic backing that takes the shape of jelly beans. The sofa has the potential to give any living space a multi-dimensional aesthetic, which I can appreciate. Check out the Jelly Sofa on Artemest.com.

Tema E. Variazioni Decorative Plates by Fornasetti

We can’t forget about those who love art-filled decorative plates. The artist, Piero Fornasetti, specializes in hand-crafting home decorations and furniture. Made from porcelain, Fornasetti paints the pieces to give their unique designs. I included my favorite Tema E. Variazioni plates because of their 19th-century Victorian art style (N.363, N.154, N.248, and N.334, respectively). While referencing the Victorian era, Fornasetti adds an unconventional sensation to the plate’s design. Plates are selling for $190 each on Artemest.com.

“Design is coming to grips with one’s real lifestyle, one’s real place in the world. Rooms should not be put together for show but to nourish one’s well-being.”

Amour Centerpiece by Daniela Forti

The creation process of this centerpiece was enough for me to fall in love. Uniquely hand-made by applying high temperatures to glass, which alters the shape into a jelly-like form. Melting the glass allowed Forti to create a bizarre base for the centerpiece that mimics tentacles. I don’t believe the Amour Centerpiece needs extra decorations because it catches my eye on its own with its vivid shape and color. Available on Artemest.com.

1983 “Obliqua” Lounge Chair by Mario Botta

Mario Botto’s “Obliqua” piece is to die for. This lounge chair is perfect for comfort due to its incline. The idea of the Oblique was to “represent an inclined plane in space, ready to envelop the curious observer yet still maintaining an independent existence.” Originating in Italy in 1983, the chair fits between the post-modern, vintage, and art-deco styles. Selling for $7,600 on 1stDibs.com.

Mathmos Saturn Giant Lava Lamp

IKonic Interior is in love with this Saturn Giant Lava Lamp. Mathmos began manufacturing its famous lava lamps during the 1990s, which allowed multiple buyers to fill their homes with a space-age charm. One thing that intrigued me is that Mathmos created its name from the French 1960s comic strip Barbarella by referencing the bubble liquid force under the city. The Lava lamp comes is available in pink, orange, white, yellow, purple, etc. Check it out on Mathmos.com.
