Marc jacobs & LV-Bag edition
Marc Jacobs was the Creative Director at Louis Vuitton for 16 years, from 1997 to 2014. Jacobs is credited with being a breath of fresh air for the brand by introducing a modern style into the classic designs. Since then, Marc has been focusing on his prominent brand.
Marc Jacobs & Stephen Sprouse Collaboration
The Marc Jacobs and Stephen Sprouse Collaboration was labeled one of the best logos hacks around by Vogue Magazine in 2021, 20 years later. This collection was bold and edgy for Louis Vuitton at the time. Stephen Sprouse is remembered as the fashion designer and artist known for mixing uptown sophistication in clothing with a downtown punk and pop sensibility in the 80s. He was invited by Marc Jacobs to collaborate on Louis Vuitton’s Spring/Summer 2001 collection where they introduced iconic Louis Vuitton bags with graffiti print. These bags are legendary and collectible items.
Eye Love Monogram Collection
In 2003 the Multicolore bags were released during the spring/summer collection. Jacobs introduced a monogram collaboration with Japanese artist Takashi Murakami. This design was available in a variety of iconic bags from Louis Vuitton, including the Alma and Speedy bags. The Alma is one of my personal favorite bag designs because it has a leather key holder and a padlock. The Multicolore Monogram Bags were discontinued in 2015.
The Cherry Blossom Collection
In 2003, Jacobs collaborated with Japanese artist Takashi Murakami. Murakami remade the monogram in pink with cherry blossom designs for his first series. In 2004 and 2005, Cherry print and Denim were added. It was the must-have bag at the time when it appeared on Regina George in Mean Girls(2004). I love this collection it is enjoyable.
The Limited Edition Monogram Miroir Collection
Monogram Miroir Hand Bags were introduced, in the 2007 Fall/Winter Louis Vuitton show. The Monogram Miroir is made of shiny mirrored vinyl with an printed monogram pattern. This handbag has room for your essentials with a padlock which is my favorite feature.
Tribute Patchwork Bag & Collectors Case
The 2007 spring/summer collection Louis Vuitton tribute patchwork bag has been one of my favorite handbags since watching the Marc Jacobs & Louis Vuitton documentary. The LV tribute patchwork bag is made of 15 different Louis Vuitton sample bags, at the time this was one of the most expensive bags released. The Hand bag also came with a glass collectors case as Jacobs only made 24 tribute bags. This bag received mixed reviews but is still my favorite handbag.
Damier Mosiac and Damier Optic
The Damier Mosaic and Optic were a part of the spring/summer 2013 collection. A collection inspired by Daniel Buren’s Les Deux Plateaux installation in Paris. Marc Jacobs thanked Daniel Buren for inspiring the spring/summer 2013 collection for Louis Vuitton. Buren also created the installation for this collection and was given creative freedom. The runway was perfect for this collection as there was a checkboard floor to match Louis Vuitton’s iconic Damier pattern. I would love to have one in my collection.
“The square and the grid are repeated motifs in Buren’s work, while the checks relate to Louis Vuitton’s geometric Damier pattern.” – Marc Jacobs with Dazed Magazine.
White Multicolor Monogram Mink and Silver Bum Bag
The famous bum bag as seen on the Amber Rose from the 2006 fall/winter collection. I’m not a fan of fanny packs but I love this. The fall/winter 2006 collection was overflowing with dark and neutral colors that made the handbags shine. I love how Marc Jacobs never was afraid to add modern flair to the Louis Vuittons classic designs.
